The British International Comics Show is pleased to announce its programme of portfolio reviews for 2010.
This is your chance to show your stuff to top commissioning editors in the field, in previous years aspiring artists have been snapped up by the likes of DC, Panini and Warner Bros at BICS, going on to launch careers as professional comics artists.
Our team of review editors is currently being finalised, (to be announced very soon), but rest assured they will be the real deal, so don’t miss this increasingly rare opportunity to have your work appraised by the industry people that really matter.
Naturally, demand for places will be very high, and we always receive far more applicants than we can accommodate (due to time and space considerations), with this in mind we will have a triage system in place. Only the very best will make the final cut!
Our judging panel of industry professionals will assess all submitted portfolios, those meeting the required standards will be short-listed. Applicants will then be assigned a time slot with an editor they feel is the most suitable judge for the work presented.
To be considered for a one on one portfolio review at BICS, artists must meet the following requirements.
Artists must:
Be over the age of 16 and not have already secured professional work in the industry.
Provide a minimum of 5 pages of comic strip continuity in sequence from the same story, not pin-ups or covers (single page images can be included in your live review at the show, but we do not want to see them). And we mean 5! Not 4 or 3 and a half, if you send less than 5 no matter how brilliant, you will not be considered for a review. (If submitting inking samples, the pencils must be included, for colouring samples the line art must also be attached to your submission).
Submit only once! We do not have the time or resources to monitor your works in progress, so wait until you are ready and then send your 5 best pages.
Have a working email address so that we may contact you.
Send your submission (be sure to attach your 5 pages, in jpeg, tiff or PDF form) to:
portfolioreviews@thecomicsshow.co.uk
To reach us no later than September 1st 2010. Applications arriving after this date will not be considered. You will receive a confirmation email
stating your submission has been received for consideration within 7 days. If you do not receive confirmation within the 7 days, please contact us stating the date of your application.
Successful applicants will be notified of their time slot and appointed editor no later than October 1st 2010.
Be sure to include your name in the title(s) of your file(s).
Please note: BICS cannot accept postal submissions, all applicants must submit via the official entry procedure as outlined.
You are free to suggest preferred day/time slights for your review, but we cannot guarantee to meet your requirements. Remember, the more flexible you are, the more likely you are of getting a review!
